The Agafay desert is located about 30 km from Marrakech and offers a landscape and terrain unlike any other place. This trip is recommended as an additional desert journey for those who have, or plan to, visit the sandier deserts in the south.
Agafay Desert is located between Lalla Takerkoust and Marrakech. Take the morning to make your way to the desert here, and enjoy a glimpse of life on the outskirts of Marrakech along the way. Explore the untouched nature of the desert and discover camps that are nestled into its ridges and valleys.
On the way to Agafay Desert, the route is shaded by orange trees and lush vegetation. Pass villas and farms, shepherds and wheat fields. Once you are there you will gaze at the vast, uninterrupted sky. Enjoy a camel ride over the rolling hills and see the High Atlas mountains in the distant horizon. The landscape boasts seasonal crops of wild flowers and wheat.
After a delicious lunch at a local camp, join your driver for your return to Marrakech via Lalla Takerkoust, a nearby lake, or barrage as its called. This is a lake built from a dam and the source of much of the electricity for Marrakech. See the natural landscape that is a main attraction for many local Moroccans and expats looking to enjoy time outside the city.
Cross back over the Kik Plateau for amazing views of the flatlands and another glimpse of the mountains if you are lucky to see them on a clear day. Return to your accommodation in the afternoon in plenty of time to rest and enjoy your evening.
